As part of its Maiduguri Flood Response and an attempt to respond to the growing humanitarian needs in the aftermath of the Maiduguri Floods, the Nigerian Red Cross Society has deployed Disaster Response Teams to Maiduguri, Nigeria as part of its #MaiduguriFloodResponse.

While in Maiduguri, the teams will build temporary shelters, offering psycho-social support to people affected by floods in Damboa, Bayo, Jere,  Maiduguri and helping the populace rebuild their livelihoods.

Also, the President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga says that the organization will require at least $2.5m to restore some semblance of stability to the lives of the populace affected by flood. Prince Adeaga explained that the Red Cross targeted 4,500 households with food and non-food items.

In this vein, the Nigerian Red Cross Society urgently calls for donations to support thousands of families affected by the massive flooding that devastated Maiduguri and surrounding areas. Flooding has led to displacement of communities, the destruction of homes and left many without access to clean water, food, and shelter.

“The situation on the ground is critical, with many families struggling to survive. In the wake of this disaster, the Nigerian Red Cross is on the front lines, delivering emergency relief such as food, water, and first aid and providing temporary shelter to those who have lost their homes. However, the scale of the disaster far exceeds the resources currently available.”

“Our teams are working tirelessly to respond to this emergency, but we cannot do it alone,” said Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, President, of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

“We urgently need the support of individuals, organizations, and the international community to help us reach those in desperate need. Every donation will make a difference and could save a life.”

Why We Need Your Help

Immediate Relief: The floods have left thousands without basic necessities. Funds are urgently needed to supply food, clean water, hygiene kits, and medical assistance to prevent the outbreak of waterborne diseases.

Shelter and Protection: Many families are currently living in makeshift shelters or out in the open, exposed to the elements. Donations will help provide temporary housing and essential items like blankets and clothing.

Long-term Recovery: Beyond immediate relief, the Nigerian Red Cross is committed to helping communities rebuild their lives. Donations will also support long-term recovery efforts, including rebuilding homes and restoring livelihoods.
