The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has received a heartfelt donation of 1,000 family kits from the Red Cross of China, delivered through the Chinese Embassy, to support families in flood-affected states.
Each kit is filled with essential items — from blankets, towels, and moisture-proof pads to slippers, bowls, utensils, folding jerrycans, umbrellas, socks, washable sanitary pads, and travel bags. These supplies are more than just objects; they are a reminder of dignity, comfort, and hope for families rebuilding their lives after the floods.
Welcoming the donation, NRCS Secretary General, Abubakar Kende, emphasized that “the Red Cross has always stood with vulnerable people in their hardest times.” He further explained that the NRCS, created by an Act of Parliament in 1960, works alongside government efforts to ease suffering — never in competition, but in solidarity.
The spirit of collaboration was echoed by Dr. Ghulam Muhammad AWAN, Head of Delegation of IFRC, who praised the joint effort and commended ongoing humanitarian work across the affected communities.
Representing the Chinese Embassy, Deputy Chief of Mission, Zhou Hong You, shared that the donation was guided by compassion and a strong desire to stand by flood-affected families in Nigeria.
Already, about 500 households in Mokwa, Nigeria-who were hit by devastating floods have been registered to receive these family kits, in addition to the non-food items and cash assistance previously distributed. The remaining kits will be shared across other flood-affected states, ensuring more families receive timely relief.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Benson Agbro, Director of Disaster Management at NRCS, expressed gratitude, saying: “When humanity leads, compassion has no boundaries.”
Together, across nations and communities, we continue to prove that kindness and solidarity can heal even the deepest wounds.
