Marking a historic milestone for humanitarian infrastructure in West Africa, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has office ally commissioned the ultra-modern corporate office of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) in Abuja.

The high-profile commissioning ceremony was held in the presence of global humanitarian leadership, including the Heads of Delegation from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Country Manager of the British Red Cross, and the Norwegian Red Cross, World Food Program and many other organizations. The gathering of these key international partners underscores the strategic importance of the Nigerian Red Cross within the global humanitarian network.
Senator Tinubu, a Red Cross member herself- who has a long-standing history of supporting the Nigerian Red Cross—particularly through extensive community development and welfare initiatives in Lagos—reaffirmed her deep commitment to the movement. In her keynote address, she praised the resilience of the Society’s volunteers and staff, noting that the new corporate office symbolizes a new era of modernized operations, data-driven response, and fortified institutional strength.

"The activities of the Nigerian Red Cross Society go far beyond our shores-whether providing First Aid Services or responding to disasters, assisting victims of conflict or people in need-promoting health and well being or providing humanitarian assistance; the society has remained steadfast in its mission of serving humanity.”
The newly commissioned corporate office is designed to optimize emergency response logistics, scale up data analytics for disaster management, and provide a collaborative space for local and international partners to synchronize their humanitarian efforts.
The presence of the IFRC, ICRC, British Red Cross, and Norwegian Red Cross delegations highlights the strong international solidarity backing the NRCS as it steps into this modern operational chapter. Leadership from the delegations expressed their continued commitment to funding, capacity-building, and technical partnerships with the Nigerian Red Cross.
Speaking on behalf of the international movement, the Head of Delegation for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Ghullam Awam remarked: "Today Nigeria faces complex humanitarian challenges. But the IFRC strengthened by its partners is making efforts to strengthen disaster response and mitigation activities of communities in Nigeria-making them more resilient to the impact of climate change. As a Grand Matron of the Nigerian Red Cross, your support can help intensify humanitarian impact and improve outcomes”
The National President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, extended the institution's deepest gratitude to Senator Tinubu. He described her presence and historical advocacy as a powerful catalyst for the organization's future growth.
“Despite the fact that the position of Grand Matron of the Nigerian Red Cross Society organization is constitutional, we have never had anyone occupy it so far. For this reason, we wish to thank Her Excellency-who is a Red Crosser herself for accepting the position. With her support I see the Nigerian Red Cross remaining steadfast in its goal of alleviating human suffering and serving humanity.”
